Child and Youth Participation
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we have been successful in our application to win a Child and Youth participation award through Túsla for 2024-2026. We worked really hard from November 2023 - April 2024 over the last few months to change the culture of child participation throughout the service. We collected our award in November 2024 where Doireann, Amy and 3 children from our Senior Preschool made the trip to Dublin to collect our award in person.
At First Steps Creche & Preschool, we are committed to the value of children and young people participating in decisions that affect their lives.
The term ‘participation’ refers to the involvement of children and young people in decision-making on issues that affect their lives, as part of a process of enacting their rights as citizens, at both the individual and collective levels. Participation must be embedded in the very core of all our work. True participation is attained through engagement in dialogue, in an interactive, on-going, and inclusive process. True dialogue and change require space, voice, audience, and influence (Lundy Model).
